Valentines Day

What a lucky teacher- surrounded by thoughtful and caring students!

Having fun counting, sorting, and graphing conversation hearts for math.

Healthy Hearts Party! We snacked on some healthy treats during our party this afternoon. Thanks to all those who pitched in to make the celebration fun and nutritious!

Thank you, Mrs. DeMeester, for helping us out at the party today! We love having you visit!

Behavior Chart

Some of you have asked for a picture of this: here's our behavior chart that we use every day. All students start on Green: "Ready to Learn". Good choices result in a clip moving up to "Great Day" or "Outstanding". Poor choices will move a clip down to "Slow Down", "Teacher's Choice", or "Parent Contact." Now when your child tells you he or she is "on yellow" you'll know that's a good thing!

Birthday Treats!

We have three birthdays to celebrate this month- here's some funny shots
of first graders enjoying some cupcake frosting!

100th Day Fun!

Our 100 Day Snack Mix: We added groups of 100 treats until we had 1,000 pieces- yummy!

We wrote about what we will be like when we are 100 years old- and made collage portraits of ourselves as senior citizens.

Snowshoe Adventure!

We had a lot of fun and got a great work-out this afternoon! This was a first for all of us- snowshoeing through the woods with snowflakes all around. Totally beautiful!

Science Fair Project

This month we are learning all about the scientific process and preparing for the science fair. We are asking the question, "Do different plants have different needs?" We will be exploring different types of plants and experimenting with a plant that can grow without soil- a tilandsia plant (pictured above). Ask your student about some of the experiments we've been doing in class!

Sled Dogs!

Winter is always full of adventures at WMAES! This week we were visited by a sled dog team. We got to pet all of the beautiful dogs and then watch them pull their sled.  They really are smart and gorgeous animals! Remember to always send the kids with all of their winter gear- we are hoping to go snow-shoeing soon!
