Science Symposium Project...

We are investigating why leaves change color in the fall and tracking which trees change color first. Here we are making observations and drawing the tree line. We'll do this several times over the next few weeks and compare our drawings to see how the trees change.

Working Hard in Math and Science!

We are learning several different strategies to add and solve equations!

Searching for Signs of Fall...and Making Discoveries!

We are learning about why leaves change color, and which will change color first. Here's some beauties we found!
While searching for changing colors, we made some discoveries - a gypsy moth cocoon and a snake! What a cool way to start the morning!

Turtle Discovery!

During our "Sink or Float" experiment, we found a baby snapping turtle on his way to the pond! Mr. Shawn joined us as we helped him out and released him into the pond.
What sinks and what floats? We found items from nature, made a hypothesis, and then tested it out!
Releasing the baby turtle into the pond. Soon he will start to hibernate and burrow under the mud for the winter.

Making Salsa

Mr. Shawn taught us how to make salsa from plant parts: roots (garlic), leaves (cilantro), and fruit (peaches, peppers, and tomatoes). Yum!

First Day of School!

Only at WMAES does our first day include picking fresh fruits and veggies from the garden to use in the cafeteria! The kids learned about organic, chemical-free gardening from Miss Holly and got to try some yummy pears and peaches right off the tree!
