This Month's Themes

During the month of November, we will be focusing on changes in the weather and the character trait of Cooperation.

Parent Information

Homework
Homework will be given out every Friday (with a few exceptions including some holidays, etc.). Students have one week to complete homework and turn it in the following Friday. Late homework will be excepted on Monday only.

Snacks
Students have a mid-morning snack every day to keep them going until lunch. Please pack your child a healthy snack.  We will also have a snack on hand in class for those that do not bring one from home. We are always accepting donations to our snack stash! Good choices might be graham crackers, pretzels, grapes, carrot sticks, etc.

Drinks and Gum
Students are allowed to bring a water bottle to drink from during class. They are encouraged to bring them home on a regular basis to wash them out. Please send only water in bottles as juice may spill and stain.  Surprise! I do allow gum chewing in our class. I find that some children are able to focus better when chewing gum. Students are only allowed to have gum inside of our classroom (not in other classes and not outside). If I see gum come out of a mouth, it will be thrown away.

Dress Code
All students are required to wear the WMAES uniform. A uniform shirt must be worn with either blue jeans or khaki pants (no leggings, no colored jeans, no black pants, no printed pants). Shorts are allowed and must be at a finger-tip length. Skirts are not allowed except for religious reasons. Uniform shirts should not be covered by sweaters or hoodies.

Outside Clothes
We go outside on a regular basis and students do tend to get a little dirty when they explore nature! Please be mindful that students should wear closed-toe shoes and should come prepared for the current weather conditions. If your child wears rain or snow boots to school, please also send a change of shoe for indoors.

Birthdays
Birthdays are very exciting in first grade! If you would like to send a birthday treat, please get in touch with me 1-2 days prior so we can arrange a good time for the celebration. I can also let you know how many treats you will need and if there are any food allergies.  To avoid hurt feelings, it is a good idea to mail party invitations if the whole class will not be invited. I will be compiling a contact sheet for this purpose. If you would like your information included on this sheet, please fill out the form that was sent home or email me.
